In January 2012, the Office of Inspector General (OIG) of the United States Department of Commerce received three anonymous complaints alleging improprieties related to a Senior Official in the National Weather Service (NWS), an agency within the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), being retained by NWS as a consultant immediately upon his retirement from the agency.
